Dar’l-Fodiawa Institute
Dar’l-Fodiawa (Fodiawa House) is an Islamic educational institute, established to revive our traditions of learning and service, modeled after the great Sankore’ University /Mosque in the ancient city of Timbuktu, as a religious and scientific center where Islamic sciences and professional skills are acquired as a means of leadership training and community building.
Our mission is to produce cultured and learned leaders, bearing our distinct social and cultural stamp based upon prophetic guidance, to train and equip them with the necessary tools and skills to successfully rebuild our community.
Our curriculum consist of 4 basic divisions, intended for instruction from a wholistic approach to produce a well educated and enlightened student of knowledge in (1) Qur’anic sciences, including Arabic grammar and morphology, (2) Islamic Studies (3) General Education and (4) Vocational and Life skills training.
Qur’anic Sciences
This course is designed to initiate the student of knowledge into the vast sciences of the Qur’an, including the rules of recitation and memorization, using the Arabic language as a key to understanding and unlocking its meanings.
Islamic Studies
This Islamic Studies course will first consist of a thorough study of the individual obligations from the foundation of the religion and the 2 branches. Memorization of small text and key points will be emphasized to ensure students are well acquainted with knowledge of basic obligations. From there we will study basic hadeeth, including the seerah (biography) of the Messenger of Allah صلى االله علیه و سلم along with a general history of Islam, zooming in on the lives of notables from the past up until today.
General Education
Our general education courses are designed to facilitate students developing strong academic skills in essential subjects such as math, english, and science. After enrolling, students take a placement test to assess skill level and classes needed. The students are then placed in a program to meet their specific needs and stated educational goals. These programs include language mechanics, essay writing, college prep math and application of sound science. We believe a well rounded and balanced education is the key to producing next generation leadership.
Vocational and Life Skills
These courses are offered to provide students with the tools and knowledge necessary to be self-sufficient and independent, while also learning the fundamentals of character building and social awareness. Students will first go through self-development classes to learn skills such as home economics, financial literacy, and cultural identity. In addition to this, students will be introduced to trades and vocations in the fields of construction, engineering, electrician, and many others, geared to promote learning professional skills and entrepreneurship.
